4years ago, while working on another historic campaign, @mintimm asked me to move from another team and join hers. In that convo she also asked me how much I made $$$. At taht time I had been trying to advocate for myself for a raise…to no avail. So…embarrassed…I told her.
@mintimm was hiring 2 co-deputy roles, I was going to be 1. So knowing what I made, and what the budget for the role was…she began to advocate for me to join her team, and for me to get a pay bump.
. @mintimm fought for me to get that pay bump like she was fighting for herself…and literally used the words “you can’t pay the black girl less than the white girl”.
The fact that even in Democratic/progressive spaces this was and STILL IS an issue…and also that @mintimm was willing to fight for me meant…and still means SO much to me.
Because of @mintimm , I got a 40% pay bump…when weeks/days prior I was so unhappy and felt so undervalued that I had begun looking for another job.
. @mintimm the first person to ever ask how much $$ I made..and not only did she ask…proceeded to do something about it! When I say there is nothing in this world she could ever ask me to do that I would not do…that is an understatement.
I am so excited for all the BIPOC, especially women, who will benefit from . @mintimm being in this role. All the folks who will have opportunities because she SEES them..and sees them enough to ask the hard questions and go about fixing those things that are clear disparities.
. @mintimm you changed the trajectory of my career…and although I am crying all over my keyboard right now..I am SO SO SO happy for you, and so happy for all the folks who will benefit because you are in this role.
