its honestly tiring but why is it important to us that a practising Muslim occupies these spaces? Because we want to be represented by practising muslims. A non religious person does often not understand why a mosque being demolished is an attack on our identities. https://twitter.com/akhmxt/status/1353701321518407681
We are tired of being represented by Javed Akhtars and Naseeruddin Shahs in the mainstream who think a university is the answer to a mosque’s demolition. Who go out of their way to balance the state backed hindutva by offering a muslim equivalent from another region.
Who knowingly or unknowingly provide fodder to Islamophobia, and give in to the good muslim bad muslim dichotomy which more often than not just means a practising muslim and an unpractising one. A practising Muslim’s struggles are different to a non practising one.
They are not going to struggle with discrimination and hate because they chose to offer Namaz in a setting where being Muslim is seen with prejudice. So its assuring in some manner to see a practising Muslim occupy a public space.
And while this might look like a rant against agnostic/ non practising muslims, it isn’t. It’s just anger at the state and people who want to police our faiths, passing unsolicited comments like “well, being religious has its ills too”. You are part of the stigmatisation. https://twitter.com/enlight1298/status/1353712366425411584
