A common question I get from new CEO's and founders that I coach is: "How do you structure your week?".

So I thought I'd make a thread for everyone to see, and if it helps one person then that was well worth the time.
Monday

No meetings. Mondays are for orienting myself in the landscape I am making decisions about. Check metrics, check team dynamics, understand what is going on! Figure out what I need to deal with this week that isn't part of the regular loops.

Don't do anything. Be calm.
Quick side note on "loops". Different aspects of running a business are either a loop or not.

If it's a loop, you set a recurring meeting before you know what you will talk about.

If it's not you set 1 meeting in response to an event or issue that came up.

Don't mix these!
Tuesday

Tuesdays are for decisions and loops.

1h30 with the management team to make formal decisions for the business.

1h meeting with all the teams present to make cross-functional decisions/get on the same page.

Use the Monday insights!

PM: 1on1s and external meetings.
Wednesday

Totally open at the start of the week. Wednesdays are for work.

Calmly attend to things you discovered on Monday and do things/follow up on decisions from Tuesday.
Thursday

AM is for strategic leadership meeting. C-suite discusses what works, what doesn't and what to change. It's about getting/sharing info. Formalize insights next Tuesday.

PM is for the (1) current key strategic project for the company. Follow up follow up follow up.
Friday

Friday AMs are for energy and celebration and finishing the week in a good way. Be positive! Send people into the weekend with a good feeling of accomplishment. Don't bring up new problems.

PM is for meeting with CFO. Know where your cash is and where it is going!
Weekends

I try to never "work" on weekends.

Recovery. Family. Friends. Life.

But the brains doesn't stop and weekends are great for taking a step back and thinking big and doing deep reflection.
