Disclaimer first, so hopefully people won't straw-man this:
Covid-19 is devastating so we need severe restrictions right now, perhaps even more severe than what we have.
HOWEVER - can we please stop the "it's the same for everyone" stuff, this is where/why people tune out.(1/) https://twitter.com/AdamRutherford/status/1353681555160489985

Lockdown is not "shit for everyone". It has been a financial boon to many, and merely a mild inconvenience to others - while being utterly, life-changingly devastating to a substantial minority. And there is no indication that there is any plan to share that burden later (2/)
Lumping in people who have been either mentally or financially ruined, who will be years recovering from these lockdowns, in with those who miss going for a pint, is either devious or else stupid. (3/)
If you want people to buy into what NEEDS to be done to get past this, and you don't have the political capital to actually make the financial hit fall relatively equally across the board, the very least people need to do is acknowledge the variance in impact. (4/)
If you aren't hearing other people's screams of pain, let alone trying to give them some sort of reassurance that society hasn't completely left them out in the storm alone, then you can't be surprised if they don't listen to you when you tell them how to act. That's all. (5/5)
