As the NRM Gov't continues to shutdown and censor the internet in Uganda, I am going to list a number of new jobs and career opportunities that have emerged from the internet. Most of them didn't exist 15 years ago. They were never taught in university in traditional sense.
New careers that have emerged as a result of the internet;
- website designer
- App developer
- social media influencer
- social media manager
- blogger (long-form)
- Youtuber
- content curator
- virtual assistant
- SEO expert
- digital marketer
- E-commerce expert
- website designer

I am personally an intercession of 3-4 of these new careers. In most cases, these roles intersect, you can't know where one starts or ends. A social media manager is simultaneously a content creator or even digital marketer. An SEO expert can also be website designer.
It appears the UG Gov't doesn't treat these as "real jobs" as most of the bureaucrats studied before the digital wave swept the country. They education syst. itself predates the internet and has barely been updated to reflect or adapt to the new digital economy.
The internet is a great equalizer in the sense that it exposes those who embrace it to opportunities beyond their geographical boundaries. Software developer in Uganda can always work for a startup in San Francisco as long as they have the skills.
A content creator in Uganda can reach millions of users can monetize their content through a myriad of ways including display ads, affiliate marketing, social influencing.

The Gov't has failed to create jobs at the same scale at which students leave university each year.
The internet is one great way of tapping into opportunities that can't be created by the UG Gov't. They just have to stop politicizing and weaponizing it against us. Just leave the thing on. Period.
We are not sure what new career opportunities will be created via the internet. AI, Blockchain are creating new paradigms of thinking -- the 4th Ind. Revolution.
