The underappreciated and successful career of Draymond Jamal Green. (THREAD)
Green was drafted by the dreadful Warriors in the 2nd round with the 35th pick. Last season, the Warriors won 23 games. Coming out of Michigan as the star player, he was frowned apon for his lack of skill for his height.
He had your typical 2ND RND pick rookie season, not alot of game action. He averaged 3 points, 1 assist, and 4 rebounds, with only 1 starting game out of 79.
Not much changed in Y2, as he remained on the bench, but started in a couple more games. He averaged 6 points, 2 assists, and 5 rebounds, with a block.
Mark Jackson was fired form his HC position and replaced by Steve Kerr. Kerr changed the entire Warriors style of play, running spacing, some Triangle Offense principles, ball-movement, and alot of screens. This also allowed Draymond to start in his first games.
In the regular season of Draymond's first start, he became a defense gladiator, averaging 12 points, 1 block, 2 steals, 4 assists, and 8 rebounds. His defense awarded him All-Defensive First Team with his teammate Andrew Bogut. This lead Warriors to a franchise-high 67 wins.
Draymond turned it up in the playoffs, increasing his averages to 14 PTS, 5 ASTS, 2 STLS, 1 STLS, and 10 RBS. His defensive effort with his duo MVP Stephen Curry, and the effort of all the Dubs, the Warriors win their first NBA title since Rick Barry.
In 2016, Stephen Curry had most historical offensive performances of all time, winning the first unamious MVP and 73 wins. During this, Draymond improved his play with 14 PTS, 7 ASTS, 10 RBS, 2 STLS, and 1 BLK, with an AS appearance, All-NBA 2ND TM, and 1ST-TM All Defense.
Then, things got grim. Steph gets hurt in the 1st round, but comes back against Portland and finishes the whole playoffs. Draymond averaged 15 PTS, 10 RBS, 6 ASTS, 2 BLKS, and 2 STLS. Despite the injury, the Warriors make it to the WCF.
In the WCF, Warriors ended up down 1-3 against a talented OKC team. All of their sweat, blood, and tears were almost thrown away if they lost just one game, but the Dubs prevailed, and won 4 consecutive games, becoming 11th team in NBA history to come back down 3-1. Next, Finals.
The first 4 games, the Warriors were dominant, and took a 3-1 series lead over the Cavs. At that point, everyone thought this was over, but LeBron and Kyrie Irving went all out and forced a Game 7 in Oracle Arena, one of the loudest home crowds in NBA history. Season on the line.
In 2016, Draymond Green put up his best game in his career at the best time. Even while the Splash Bros folded, Green put up 32 PTS, 15 RBS, 9 ASTS, 2 STLS, with 11/15 FG% and 6/8 from 3PT. But without the help of the Splash Bros and LeBron and Kyrie dominating, Cavs won in 7.
In the off-season, the GSW made possibly the best move of their franchise, signing Free Agent Kevin Durant. After losing an NBA Finals in the most disappointing way, the Warriors were ready for revenge.
In the regular season, Draymond PEAKED defensively, averaging 10 PTS, 8 RBS, 7 ASTS, 2 STLS, and a BLK. This competes for his 2016 season, as he won DPOY over Kawhi, lead the league in STLS, ALL-NBA 1ST-TM Defense, an AS appearance, and ALL-NBA 1ST TM.
As always, Draymond amplified his stats in the playoffs, averaging 13 PTS, 9 RBS, 7 ASTS, 2, and 2. The Warriors swept everyone in their path and had rematch of last year's finals, and won with ease. At this point of his career, Draymond was winning. Winning alot.
2018 was an exact replica of his previous season, an All-Star, but bumped down to 2ND-TM All Defense. Averaging 11 PTS, 8 RBS, 7 ASTS, 1 STL, and 1 BLK, Green maintained consistency at his role, helping Steph, KD, and Klay lead the Warriors to go Back-2-Back.
In the playoffs, Green dropped 11 PTS, 11 RBS, 8 ASTS, 2 STLS and BLKS. The Warriors faced a tough Houston team in the WCF, but won in 7 after a dominating Games 6 and 7. In the Finals, the Dubs swept the helpless Cavs, sealing their mark in NBA history as a dynasty.
In 2019, Draymond started to decline and things started changing. The Warriors lost some Dubs, but replaced it with some younger faces. There were rumors that Draymond was going to be traded. Things got really bad as more players became injured, but they willed themselves to win.
During Game 5 of the Semi-Finals, Durant gets injured, resulting in him sitting out for the rest of the series. Now, the Warriors looked vulnerable. But they willed themselves past the Rockets and dominated the Blazers to send them to their 5th consecutive finals with good play.
Facing a dominant Raptors team that had just knocked off the MVP, the Warriors tried their hardest to prevail, and even tried to bring KD back earily, but it failed. And after that, the Warriors dynasty was finally over.
After that finals loss, the Warriors turned everything around. They lost all their veterans, lost Durant, had an injured Klay, and had to play in a new arena. Despite all this, Curry, Draymond, and the new Dub DLO were determined to play Warriors basketball.
Things quickly got REALLY bad. Warriors started the season by getting blown out in games and lost Steph. Draymond and DLO wanted to will this team, but Draymond suffered an injury and only played 14 games, resulting in 15 wins.
Despite things not looking good, in the middle of the season, the Warriors accquired Wiggins in a trade for DLO, and the trio was fully healthy, so things were heading back to normal. Then suddenly, Klay tears his ACL and misses another season. Now it's Curry and Draymond again.
So far, Draymond is averaging 5 PTS, 4 RBS, and 7 ASTS, becoming a major leader to these younger players and an 8-8 record. His duo Curry is having an MVP-Caliber season, giving us some hope for this season. They may not win now, but they'll be better for years to come.
My summary on Draymond:

Draymond is the most versitile defender of our era, being 6'6 and being able to guard 1-5. He is the 2nd most important player to the Warriors dynasty, creating Steve Kerr's "Death Lineup" in 2015 and becoming a historical small ball player.
