Look I was OBSESSED with living in the U.S. when I was a kid. At the ripe old age of 8 I wrote in my diary, in huge letters: When I grow up, I want to live in Brooklyn. and I realized how much I was brainwashed by Hollywood propaganda and other forms of cultural imperialism. I’d still like to visit one day. And I’ve met incredibly cool & lovely Americans over the years. But the fairytale of exceptionalism has lost its charm. Great thread
