This legislation, while openly targeted at Gypsies & Travellers will also negatively affect many other people across the UK – homeless people, protesters, overnight campers etc. (2/7)
Here is what you need to know:
Many people live on unauthorised encampments because they are homeless. There are 59 homes available to Gypsies and Travellers across the UK & 1696 waiting. Vacant plots are often inhabitable- damp, rats, next to a tip or a sewage plant etc. (3/7)

A recent Home Office consultation found that 93% of police forces think that providing homes for Gypsies and Travellers is the solution to unauthorised encampment *not* additional police powers. This is a homelessness issue. @crisis_uk #homelessnessissue (4/7)
Some people also live on unauthorised encampments as a part of their traditional nomadic lifestyle. We have proven that taking a negotiated approach to stopping saves money (upward of £200,000pa per authority), improves community cohesion & improves outcomes for Travellers. (5/7)
While this ‘debate’ rages on, let’s not forget: Travellers still have the worst health & education outcomes of any ethnic minority in the UK.
A stark reality that is often missing from the considerations when we discuss this issue.

Gypsies and Travellers, their organisations & supporters will bravely stand up to this attack as they have done to many other attacks on their families.
