My take on the Margaret Court thing:

It’s not about “freedom of speech”. Never was. If she said black people shouldn’t be allowed to marry because it said that in her religious book, these same people wouldn’t be sticking up for her freedom of speech.

It was as recent as 1967 when we had a referendum in this country to determine if aboriginals should be counted in the census and allowed to vote. It was not only considered a valid view to argue they shouldn’t be allowed to vote - it was law till then.

It’s the same argument anti maskers make about “freedom”. It’s got nothing to do with freedom. If it did, they’d be advocating against seatbelts or drink driving laws. They don’t believe the doctors and scientists. Just as anti- SSM people believe gays will poison society.

Margaret Court being given an Australia Day honour is sending a message that it’s acceptable to discriminate on the basis of one’s sexuality. It’s saying, it’s acceptable to publicly vilify a group of Australians because they are lesser members of society.
