#COVID19 and its aftermath has highlighted the crucial role of the media in democratic countries. However, this is a role recognized by undemocratic countries as well. #China, in particular, has attempted to leverage foreign media to "tell the China story well". #TellingCNStory

While backlash has grown in response, the rapid inflow of investment can often obscure the response, particularly as existing media is eroded. As such, lessons from the varying experiences with this phenomenon from both #European and #African nations are crucial to learn.
