Hancock “It’s because of the new variants that we have to be particularly careful about international travel. The vaccine program is going well. We know that vaccines work against the variants that are here, but we don’t know if they work so well against the foreign variants”.
This is nonsense. I’ve explained before that the totality of changes from the first-sequenced version is far too low a % to make any meaningful difference to how our bodies recognise the virus from an immunological. Making ‘typos’ is what viruses do as they replicate. We will...
...have cooked up our own variants in their hundreds if not thousands not only already, but it real time. In other words, it’s deliberately misleading & wholly ineffective as a measure to ‘stop foreign variants’ getting into U.K. as they’re already here and/or being created as...
...we speak. And this is simply not important because it’s nonsense to suggest that changes representing a fraction of 1% of the protein sequence will fool our immune systems. In any case, the approx 8000 arrivals per day by air (Simon Calder) already have a negative PCR test.
The requirement to quarantine in a hotel on arrival will all but shut our borders. For no benefit whatsoever. Does this sound rational to you?
