I’d really like someone who believes severe mental illness can be cured by energy work to spend a week in my old job as an intensive psychiatric social worker and try to keep saying that. It’s one thing to use alternative healing to help us cope and find comfort. But curing? No.
When people give folks false hope that there is a cure and it doesn’t work for them, that often becomes a new source of shame. I always tell my clients with Bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, etc. that the goal is improvement and management, not cure.
And to be real, crystals have really helped me with anxiety and depression, including one time helping me out of a massive panic attack. Reiki has provided me with great comfort too. But they are complementary additions, not a cure and not a replacement for medical treatment.
(Please only buy ethically sourced crystals. Google that if you don't know what it means, there is plenty of information available and it is worth reading about in depth.)
