Lemme start by saying this: I use to fuck with JT HEAVY. I use to keep Futuresex/Lovesounds and The 20/20 Experience in a heavy rotation. And if either album came on, I’m sure I wouldn’t miss the chance to enjoy either. But.... idk man
I’m gonna start with the obvious mistreatment of the Jackson family. Yes Nipplegate still plagues me. And yes, I know he’s “apologized” and the NFL “claims” that Janet is no longer banned from the Super Bowl. But I don’t think anyone realizes how much Janet’s career suffered.
Also his wishy washy appreciate of MJ still bothers me. How do you claim Frank Sinatra as your main inspiration & debut with an album of MJ’s rejected tracks, only to claim MJ as an influence AFTER his death so that you can record over his vocals?
And I’m still weirded out by the fact that we was performing Michal and Janets music on tour, but as long as he got the clearance....
Now I’m sure all of this is forgivable for a lot of you all (hell I somehow managed to forgive it). But the thing that kinda sent me over that a lot of y’all forgot was his All Lives Matter tweets during the BET Awards.
After Jesse Williams acceptance of the Humanitarian award during the 2016 BET Awards (and during the height of the first BLM movement) JT made some tweets saying “The more you realize that we are the same, the more we can have a conversation.”
Now had this been any other white person, y’all would have ripped him to shreds. But I guess Bc JT makes “urban music” it’s ok.
