If you are in Australia and worried about covid for any reason other than that you are a healthcare policymaker and covid planning is your job, then you are an idiot. That's it, there is no more to be said than that. The Australia Vs Covid battle is over and Australia won.
This clear and obvious fact means that the frame for covid vaccine policy in Australia is completely and utterly different from the frame for vaccine policy in other rich countries, in that the only reason we need the vaccine is to reopen to the world, not to save lives.
Given that the rest of the rich world is *completely stuffed* at the moment and will be for the next three months at an absolute minimum, and highly likely for longer, there isn't really much of a short-term hurry on the reopening, nice though it will be to travel again.
In that contact *of course we shouldn't be trying to bid up Pfizer or Moderna vaccine supplies against countries that need them*. That would literally kill people overseas in exchange for no practical benefit at all for us. Just take the CSL-produced AstraZeneca and be grateful.
(it would probably be more ethical to ship the CSL-made AstraZeneca batch to Brazil or Indonesia and leave vaccinating Australians until next year, honestly, but I think that's probably an unreasonable expectation of moral sainthood)
