I am so tired of people lying about our taxes. Today I got an irate woman screaming that the government takes 50% of her paycheque. I'm going into my 40th year of working and never has the government taken 50% of my paycheque.
Those that claim that the government is taking 50%, I suspect that they are including the amount that is paid for their employee/employer benefit plan and possibly union dues and blaming it on the government.
What's really annoying is that these complainers never mention how many deductions are claimed when filing their tax report, nor do they ever mention the child benefit they receive monthly from the government.
For someone to think that they would be able to provide all the vitals for their spouse/children on a salary of $100k/annum reveals that there is no longer common sense or basic logic.
I ran this salary through turbo tax: $125,000 . Fed tax on this amount is $21,739 per year, provincial (Ont.) is $12,492. A total of $34,007 - minus claimable deductions.
Federal/provincial contribution provides you with everything you take for granted. A year's contribution of $34K probably wouldn't cover a 2-week hospital stay. You never have to pay for a house call from a cop, fireman, sanitation, Dr.s visit, etc. from your bank account.
It amazes me that so many can't seem to comprehend just how much their contribution covers for them & their family. I've come across Libertarians that claim they don't need the government to provide this and that. Yeah, you do. You can't provide everything on an average salary.
Maybe they would be less angry if they actually referred to taxes as contribution, and just focus on the amount going into their bank accounts which covers their personal lifestyle. Thank goodness for the intelligence of our ancestors that got our taxes to actually serve us.
