This story is a great little case study to help us understand the interrelatedness of white supremacy, Christian nationalism, and systemic racism.

Quick thread. https://twitter.com/jaketapper/status/1353476307498262530
White supremacy: non-white people are inferior to white people.

Huffman assumes that Black people (he even uses the derogatory term “colored”) have higher COVID rates because there is something inferior about them.
Christian nationalism: the use of Christian language and symbols to maintain (or regain) privilege for the powerful.

Fortney uses charity to “minority neighborhoods” and “mission trips” to rationalize white supremacy. Similar to the “I have Black friends” justification.
Systemic racism: an entity exhibits racial prejudice because those who built and/or lead it were/are racist.

Someone who ascribes to white supremacy (Huffman) in leadership of an entity (Ohio State Senate Health Committee) will result in that entity exhibiting racial prejudice.
