Here’s an explainer on how district landmarking works in New York City.

If you live in a wealthy community with high property values you get to turn your neighborhood into a museum.

That’s it, that’s the policy.
I’m not kidding. There’s no science to it. It’s a corrupt process.
And it’s not restricted to NYC, this is how it works in most places.

We should end district landmarking and focus on creating a legit individual landmarking process instead.

Real preservation is important.
