If I'm allowed to be a bit judgmental here, I don't like this system of honor. I find it antiquated and regressive.
What matters is appearances and validation, not truth?
Who cares (or should care?) about appearances?

is also in tension with Enlightenment rationality? Sure, there is no universal rationality on many questions outside of hard sciences, but the Enlightenment at its best calls for verifiable truth and evidence--and that seems to be the opposite of honor.
