Interesting set of amendments to the Environment Bill being considered this week. I don't think all will be considered, it is up to the speaker to decide. But how about a thread of some interesting ones
NC3 removes the consideration of the impact of Phosphates as a result of planning apps / development. High phosphate build up impacts aquatic life, here's a primer: https://www.usgs.gov/special-topic/water-science-school/science/phosphorus-and-water?qt-science_center_objects=0#qt-science_center_objects
NC5, NC6 and NC7 set out the requirements for government to develop strategies / plans for the 'state of nature', clean air and a national tree strategy. N
NC12 bans any new fracking licenses and rescinds all existing licences 3 months after royal assent.
NC15 & NC16 require all new developments to be conditioned requiring the developments to be Net Zero Carbon and protect biodiversity.n
NC17 is huge requiring a “Strategy for new economic goals to deliver environmental protection and
societal wellbeing" but unfortunately I don't think it will pass given its scale and the amendments Sponsors (green party).
This strategy should set out how to replace GDP as the measure of economic progress, taking into account the views of, amongst others a Representative Citizens Assembly.
