For my soccer people getting into NCAA gym today.

BLACK EXCELLENCE in NCAA gymnastics: a thread.

To start, Nia Dennis’s 2021 floor https://twitter.com/uclagymnastics/status/1353398409038680065
Nia Dennis also went viral in 2020 with her incredible floor routine, a crown for the queen đź‘‘
Kennedy Baker has one of the best Arabian double pikes I have EVER seen at all levels of gymnastics. She got a perfect 10 in 2016...
... and 2017...
... and 2018 (my personal favorite)!
Alicia Boren, a teammate of Kennedy Baker, has one of my absolute favorite routines in 2018. Must watch!

Trinity. Freaking. Thomas.

This woman competed NCAA and Elite (the highest level) AT THE SAME TIME, meaning she had 8 routines she had to know. To do that and have her level of execution is ridiculous.

Here is a perfect 10 on bars (the dismount!!):
Trinity’s 10 on beam:
Trinity’s 10 on floor, which is incredibly engaging even from this camera angle. Some of the best tumbling in NCAA:
Kiya Johnson was THE freshman in 2020. Out of LSU, she has some of the best routines out there. Her vault is the hardest in NCAA and done perfectly.

Here’s a 10:
Haleigh Bryant has already shown an incredible amount of difficult skills and perfect techniques with a handful of meets behind her belt. Her floor features a lot of front tumbling, which is rare in NCAA:
She also does a BEAUTIFUL traditional entry vault, which gets bonus points from me because I’m a huge fan of these in NCAA. One of the best in the country.

Nya Reed out of Florida has a STUNNER floor routine this season. Her double lay in her first pass is so floaty, just to die for!

Danusia Francis was one of the best beamers of modern college gymnastics during her time at UCLA, “the most interesting beam work you’ll see all year” in 2016.

Perfect 10 for the perfect routine, just wait for that dismount!!
Danusia later went on to compete internationally for Jamaica, something that is almost unheard of in the sport! That stunner of a dismount was kept in her elite routine too.
AJ Jackson always had floor routines you couldn’t take your eyes off of at OU. Her tumbling was incredible, but her dance really set her apart. Floor is a MUST watch:

Margzetta Frazier is a PERFORMER, just draws everyone in. Certainly doesn’t hurt to have flawless technique too!
Big surprise: her bars are also STUNNING!

This is just a handful of all the talented black women who are or have competed in NCAA gymnastics! Meets are usually easily accessible on YouTube shortly after the happen. Pick a team and jump into the fun!
