Music Writer Exercise:
Each day in February, listen to one full album you’ve never heard, from start to finish. Write one tweet about it. #MWE
Whether you’re a working music journalist, an aspiring critic, or simply an eager listener, #MWE is a monthlong intensive that can grow your musical knowledge and help build writing skills. It’s a great way to finally hear “classic” albums you’ve missed out on, or even deep cuts.
Since 2015, I’ve been leading the #MWE community in these proceedings on this app. This is my sixth year doing it, and whether you’re an alum or just hearing about it now, I hope you’ll join us for this fun challenge.
As #MWE occurs during Black History Month, please consider choosing or focusing on albums from Black artists, and especially Black women, when making your selections. This has been an annual part of the exercise and I cannot recommend it enough.
There’s no obligation to share your list of 28 albums for #MWE in advance, although lots of people do! Others find it useful to see these lists to help build their own as well.
