Just thinking out loud... the goal of art isn’t perfection. It’s to make the viewer/reader/audience feel something and take a part of it into themselves and react to it, and make it mean something to them. And when you put your art into the world... (1/4)
your book, your poem, your art, it’s scary because you can’t control people’s reactions to it. But it is their reaction that makes it what it is. It becomes something that is now part of them, too. (2/4)
It’s like the quote that having a child is having your heart walk around outside your body. Making art is having a piece of your heart exist outside of your body. And it can be damaged. It can absolutely hurt when people don’t see it the way you did. But it will be okay. (3/4)
And you will do it again. We are creators and that’s what we do. Don’t allow the fear of what will happen to that piece of your heart stop you from putting your work into the world. Someone out there will cherish that piece of your heart and it will become their favorite. (4/4)
