I cannot express enough how dangerous it is how people say “do your own research” but mean “google search for youtube videos” https://twitter.com/louisathelast/status/1353406657439608834
We can go on about how to identify false data til blue in the face but the actual issue is 1.we retain information we seek out more readily than what is presented to us casually and 2.general education for children and teens is insufficiently teaching inference & conclusion
The exercise of predicting a sequence of events as basic as a life cycle of a plant or consequence exercises like “what caused this” or “what could happen if” are critical to formative! YOUNG! brains. theres always been a deficit in this education tbf
absolutely true, and by gatekeeping knowledge it enforces the concept that info is being INTENTIONALLY withheld https://twitter.com/persephonelm/status/1353424901500252161
And i say this FULLY KNOWING a lot of information is intentionally withheld from public consumption. however, this is becoming less possible, which means more data dumps to process, which means of course, more poor analyses
Its unreasonable to expect the general public decipher denome datasets, Of course! but something as basic as “easiest and fastest is generally how things are done, which leads to problems, why?” is a great starting point for kids
Im paraphrasing but you can prompt kids to admit to “easiest and fastest” themselves by asking “why did you do this this way” !!!
Aw i typed denome not genome and no nerds corrected me. Good job everybody!!!
