okay, so buckle up, here’s my theory as to why it’s pr & why sabrina agreed to participate in it

so i’ve thought for awhile that the sabrina/griffin/josh timeline was weird. sabrina & griffin were fine in early march. he was talking to fans during intermission at mean girls about how excited he was for her & generally just raving about her
but she posted this video which started causing fans to think her & griffin broke up, presumably april first (or at least in april)
this was later confirmed with the dm she sent a fan saying this:
two days later, she was spotted with josh for the first time. i don’t think she would lie to us (i mean, maybe if she was only in the talking stage with him, but still). she could’ve just kept her mouth shut, she didn’t have to tell us she was single if it wasn’t true https://twitter.com/singularscorey/status/1267963873937649665
so the timeline of it all felt very quick. oomfs and i theorized for awhile that she had agreed to do pr with him but griffin didn’t like that and broke up with her.
also, she didn’t tweet/post on instagram for two weeks after april first with the exception of promoting punk’d (which she probably had to do) and this one tweet, making it sound like she had needed a pick-me-up (from a breakup?) https://twitter.com/sabrinaannlynn/status/1247254594847010816

so yeah, the timeline was a little weird. her and griffin broke up really suddenly. now, despite how kind the song is, it was kind of out of character for her to post it. she doesn’t typically address things this loudly. she usually tries to handle things privately
so, why would she agree to it? especially with so many people painting her as the villain? well, disney obviously wanted to promote hsmtmts and probably saw her as the perfect person to involve in their promotion considering she has ties to them & there was sm overlap in fanbases
seriously, the audience was right there and ready. they probably planned to release the three songs and get them all promotion. but still, why would sabrina agree to something like this?
well, it’s a well known fact that her old record label, h*llywood records, is infamous for under-promoting their artists, including sabrina. she still had to make another album with them, so she agreed to do the pr stunt in return for getting out of the deal early
all of these rumors started back in june, because she was seen with josh. they probably had plans to start it once she was fresh off her broadway buzz (but maybe sped it up when it was all cancelled). then olivia posted driver’s license.
and i’m not trying to invalidate the emotion behind that song. she just, could’ve written it for someone else (hence the brunette line) and their teams decided to use it for pr. same with lie lie lie.
they probably decided to keep the brunette line when it was posted so the dramatics of changing it would be there and spark interest. & i know they may not have expected dl to blow up this much, but they probably expected carpenters & hsm stans to be involved in the other artists
also, the beginning of skin is a line from girl meets 1961. i doubt she was rewatching gmw for inspiration, but maybe she was dropping really subtle hints

oh i almost forgot! i know @/tiascola said they wrote it on thursday! but i felt the way the caption was literally “we wrote this on thursday & now it’s out” was weird, especially since only taylor swift level artists can just say “here’s this song, i’m dropping it this week”
