Good news: I volunteered as an appt verifier at the Armory, the Washington Heights vaccination site run by NYP. ~2400 people were vaccinated.

Bad news: the majority of ppl being vaccinated were not from the low-income predominately Latino neighborhood of Washington Heights. 1/ https://twitter.com/marklevinenyc/status/1352609451816181765
Most people weren’t even from any of the five boroughs of New York City.

Simply put, I’ve never seen so many white people in Washington Heights. 2/
I don’t begrudge anyone for doing their utmost to get the limited quantities of this vaccine but when the primary way of accessing the vaccine is an app in English that requires several steps on a smartphone, a lot of our most vulnerable patients are going to be left behind. 3/
If the purpose of a site in Washington Heights is to prioritize this population that has been severely affected during the COVID pandemic, then we should prioritize those patients ahead of the people who are driving hours to New York City. 4/
When the appointments become available, our patients from our neighborhood should be given a few days to schedule them rather than letting the appointments disappear in minutes to others who are relentlessly refreshing the app and have access via other health systems. End/
