Many years ago, I researched Holocaust denial for a play. This was pre-internet, and the variety I studied and wrote about was the faux-academic style, in which deniers dressed up as researchers and had “conferences” and published “journals.”
They rarely came out into public circles with their wild lies about gas chambers being really for disinfection, etc. Instead, they called for “debate.” Hear both sides, they said. And if you don’t, well, then you’re taking a side, aren’t you? Is that free and fair?
