Why part-time streaming is less stressful than being a full-time streamer.

This is based on my own experience as a partnered Twitch streamer. I can’t speak for anyone else. Power to anyone who does online entertainment full-time.

Making money as a streamer requires you to have a literal Sugar Daddy relationship with all of your subscribers, donators, & viewers. It makes sense why people who do it get burnt out or demotivated bc of this dynamic, even when they’re good/successful at what they do. (2/9)
Even as an entertainer, the feeling that you’re basically being “pimped out” by your supporters is there lol. It feels like the generous people who gift a fuckton of subs “earned” that money whereas you just had it given to you. You don’t have control over your income. (3/9)
BIG ONE: The moment you start wanting to make money from streaming is the moment you actually have to care about getting anonymous randoms on the internet to look at you.

See: any full-time Smash streamer who is forced to play n***as on WiFi or lose half their viewers. (4/9)
VERY BIG ONE: Playing video games — the thing you used to do to relieve stress — becomes a JOB. Something that was originally rewarding by itself becomes extrinsically motivating instead. (5/9)
HUGE ONE: You have to CARE about what internet n***as think about you! I genuinely can’t imagine having to appeal to fickle-ass Smashers or mfs who only know how to express their emotions by saying “PogChamp” in order to pay my bills 💀 (6/9)
The biggest problem of being an influencer in general is that your actions & true character matter much less than your image/persona. It’s way easier to develop impostor syndrome when people give more of a fuck about how entertaining you are than the impact of your actions. (7/9)
Overall, streaming is mad fun. I think many people can enjoy streaming or watching streams. But imo it’s better to keep streaming as a recreational thing than a job. Focusing on other prospects for money helps with enjoying the gaming/content creation aspect of life more. (8/9)
...and that’s pretty pretty much it. I made this thread since there are many people who want to play games full-time or currently do it, and I think that in general, more perspective is needed in order to make informed decisions or empathize with content creators better. (9/9)
