Rodgers reverted to a 4-2-3-1, with Maddison in the #10 & Tielemans/Mendy playing as #6’s.
Barnes/Ünder played slightly behind Pérez (#9) - making more of a “3” with Maddison behind the ST (which he utilised to drift into both half-spaces effectively).

In pressing, Brentford would build by spreading the CB’s wide - meaning Maddison would push up to support Perez & make a 4-4-2.
This is becoming #LCFC’s go to shape to press opposition, particularly when playing against a defensive four (i.e Southampton as well).

#LCFC started very sharp, intricate play around the final third - with excessive overloads on our attacking right, created a lot of good chances.
Their young LB (Stevens) wasn’t marking close to Ünder, but once he did, our attacking threat neutralised on that side.

For the remainder of the first-half, #LCFC struggled. We played very direct, with the midfielders looking for flicks/balls around the corner - instead of rotating/recycling.
Brentford’s press made it difficult, but they overcommitted - an extra pass would unlock them.

Instead, we played “turnover” heavy whilst they built slowly. What this does is it creates a “stop-start” game.
#LCFC were playing quickly and for transitions, but as soon as they lost possession, Brentford would slow the game down and remove the transitional element.

The switch at HT was to become more aggressive with the press.
Brentford found it easy to build from the back because #LCFC didn’t cover the passing lanes efficiently - this changed in the second-half, and the two quick goals were a by-product of this alteration.

Impressively, #LCFC maintained this intensity for the entire half & Brentford struggled to adapt.
There were signs in the first-half that if pressed Brentford would make mistakes & by isolating the player in possession - this happened.
We also rotated the ball better.

Adding a focus of midfield runners (i.e. deep runs) #LCFC are getting a variety of scorers - often midfielders.
It’s no surprise that Maddison has added 4 goals in 4 games - his runs as a #10/#8 provide another dimension for Leicester - pivotal in Vardy’s absence.

I thought Tielemans - who deserved the captaincy - was excellent today.
His dictating of tempo, understanding of when to force play through the lines - and making the correct pass, are all exemplary.
A perfect finish from the penalty was the icing on the cake.

There are a lot of positives to take from Ünder’s performance.
A very good one-vs-one dribbler, decisive when running behind the defensive line, and an intricate player when combining play.
His delayed touch, and quick cross field pass enabled the third goal.

Delving into the third goal again, the timing of his late touch forced the defender to commit to the challenge.
Brentford then shifted their defensive line to the left, covering the vacated space, but Ünder used this to find Barnes (LW) - intelligent football.

I was happy to see Pereira/Söyüncü start, both played well.
Söyüncü’s ability to manoeuvre his body weight in seconds is very advantageous for a big player, it allows him to turn a pressing forward with such ease & his passing range is great (particularly on his left).

Rodgers giving Pereira 70’ was also smart - don’t force him into playing a lot of football too soon.
His interplay with Ünder was slightly disjointed - not from a fault of either player - but with time, he’ll form a good relationship with the player ahead of him.
