I have to say, over the years, I've become way less willing to give my time/respond to emails asking for help because of the number of times I've spent ages writing considered emails, only to never even get so much as a one line thank you (which is all I'd expect) in return. https://twitter.com/meghamohan/status/1353321451663872000
It's also not just younger people - a few months ago I tweeted offering to answer ppl's questions about getting a mortgage as a freelancer and was inundated with messages. I spent hours writing emails back - would say 50% of people never acknowledged my responses.
And I was evaluating their individual circumstances (as best as I can!! deffo not an expert lol), recommending brokers, linking to resources. I just had to laugh at that point, I really can't come and die.
