/7 - Anyone else noticing a pattern in the recent flurry of COVID-19 vaccination posts? That pattern being post after post of white people announcing they’ve received the vaccination.
/7 - The data makes clear who has been disproportionately struck by COVID-19. That would be Black and brown people.
/7 - Why aren’t we all asking the question: What efforts and systems are being put in place to make sure Black and brown people have access to this vaccine considering they are the MOST impacted by it? And I don’t mean equal access. Because equity does not mean equal.
/7 - And so my next question is this. If we name this exactly for what it is, which is racism, where’s the lie?
/7 - Of course, people who are ill or who are caretakers of those who are should be vaccinated. Teachers who are physically in classrooms should be vaccinated. There are several groups of folx who should be first in line. But these are not the kinds of posts I’m noticing.
/7 - Anyone else seeing vaccinated posts by white people waving their papers like a flag? This is not some kind of badge of honor. It’s a trigger.
/7 - It's a crystal clear reminder of those who refuse to think beyond their own privileged circumstances. A continuation of being a bystander who is complicit in systemic racism.
