As I said a while back, I will take a Twitter break to get some work done. In addition, I am aware that some strategists read my tweets and alter their efforts based on them. It’s a compliment, but I prefer they struggle in the dark.
On the US side, I suggest you pay close attention to the battle over the filibuster. The Senate is split 50/50. In the event of a tie vote Kamala Harris, as VP, casts the deciding vote—but otherwise she has no vote.
The Senate is split 50/50. Only Senators can vote to decide the Senate rules. So the Dems and Republicans have to do a power-sharing agreement. It’s not done yet. In a sense, power is still split.
Even if a bill makes it to the Senate floor (let’s assume it passed the House of R.), a Senator may filibuster it. It takes 60 votes to shut down a filibuster. So in effect, it will take 60 votes to pass that bill.
The filibuster rule can be changed by a vote of the Senators. However, the votes are currently not there to do that. Some Dems do not support removing the right.
In the negotiations, Republicans have asked Dems to take removing the filibuster right off the table. The Dems have refused.
I suspect the “Inequality Act,”
as originally written, is still controversial and will take 60 votes.
A key issue is stereotyping language. Advocates will try to use it to say the notion that a biological man cannot be a female —or vice versa—is a “stereotype.” Note the effort to erase biological sex completely and replace it with gender.
Biden has named new chairs and vice chairs of the EEOC. The Vice Chair is Jocelyn Samuels, former head of the Williams Center, which has produced IMHO quite a bit of questionable writing in support of replacing sex with gender identity.
The EEOC is the agency that brought many of the lawsuits that altered US Law on trans issues in particular. They brought the Harris case and pushed the stereotyping theory mentioned above.
It is true that, in some cases, sex should not matter. There is a proper stereotyping theory in discrimination principles, but it has nothing to do with replacing sex with gender id.
In a Senate compromise, Samuels was appointed for a 6 mos term, but I think she can extend that term for an additional 6 months.
I won’t get into the details of how that extension works, but consider her there for a year.
The recommendations must be ready in 100 days. Biden has also issued a broad interpretation of the Bostock case to require replacing sex with gender identity/ignoring biology.
The insistence on ignoring biology is a nonstarter. One day I will explain why that has been so important to certain activists—even to the detriment of women.
It will be reported that Biden is doing a lot of blacks or women. He is reversing strides made. He is using those groups as a shield for other policies he favors. He will only appoint those who will condition black/women’s rights on replacing sex w gender or or ignoring biology.
It is a racist and sexist tactic in sheep’s clothing.
The executive orders use stereotyping language. They also use another concept contorted by advocates: “dignity.” Under Biden’s approaches, the only dignity that matters is that of white male persons with resources.
Biden’s approach deepens a preexisting hierarchy within & among vulnerable people, & thus doubles down on discrimination against women and racial minorities as he attempts to make white, well off gender nonconforming males “equal” to white, well-off gender conforming ones.
That’s it for my comments. I won’t be reading your comments or responses. I won’t be doing interviews. Have to work. Off to writing etc. If you mean to wish me well, I return the sentiment!
