Isn’t it weird how we as a society arrived at “monetize all your hobbies to support yourself” before “rich people should pay their workers better”
Actually, now that I think about it, the cultural push to monetize hobbies lines up perfectly with the pressure we put on ourselves to always be great.
When your hobbies are for profit, you need to be good enough to be profitable.

Sadly, this also lines up with hustle culture in an awful way. There’s enormous pressure to always be working, and by turning hobbies into work, we don’t allow ourselves rest or play.
I know I struggle a lot with holding myself to unrealistic standards of output and performance, and I’m trying to ease up on myself.
It’s especially hard for me because I adore trying new things but I hate when I don’t learn as quickly as I want to.

Remember, folks:
You are allowed to do things just because you enjoy them. Don’t sell all your playtime to hustle culture.
