fanfic is not obligated to uphold and promote safe sane and consensual sex 100% of the time, fanfic is written to cater to the author's personal tastes and kinks and fantasies. if the way an author approaches a trope is bothering you, just click out of the fic.
"wow there is a problem with how consent and boundaries are portrayed in media and respected in real life" and "please just let this author write their dubcon fantasy fanfic in peace" are two statements that can and should coexist.
fanfic is not sex-ed, fanfic is wish fulfillment being explored in a fictional space. it shouldn't and doesn't have to be Ethically Correct. and we as readers shouldn't be compelling it to. CAN fanfic be educational re: sex practices? absolutely! does it have to be? lol no
this is where we stress the difference between NICHE FANFIC and COMMERCIAL MEDIA. someone's 9.5k kink fic is not going to "normalise" anything bc it does not have the reach. and if someone uses fan content as a tool for abuse? that's on the abuser, not the creator.
