1/ The Law of Diminishing intent states that:

“The likelihood of doing something diminishes the further away you get from the initial moment of inspiration”
2/ As we have moved from 2020 into 2021, with the changing of the Gregorian calendar many people set out with new goals and new inspirations. But the reality is most end up in same old routines & look back 12 months from now and realise those big ambitions set in January had not
3/ been realised to their full potential. Why is this the case...?
It largely comes down to inaction; “I will start on Monday...I will start next week...I’m too busy right now but will make a start when I have some free time...”
4/ we have all been guilty of putting big projects we set for ourselves on the long finger, and as the law states the longer we don’t initiate upon these ambitions the higher the likelihood we don’t bother at all.
5/ A remedy or solution to this law is phrased; “In order to see change we must be prepared to take massive action”
Massive action may seem too bold and too daunting at first to even contemplate beginning. But I would argue that massive action is not a single act..
6/ it is the product of many small simple consistent actions over a period of time, where you look back and realise all those small daily efforts over time have now amounted up to something great.
7/ Nobody revises for important exams in 1 massive action, it’s over many study sittings that in the end result in you accomplishing your goal of passing the exam. Sports teams never win their championship without consistent daily training and practice.
8/ The point is that big change is rarely immediate. It’s a series of small accomplishments that create a snowball effect. People think that big ambitions need a high level of talent, skill and intelligence. These traits are accumulated and are borne out of
9/ past endeavours. Nobody attains a high level of skill without vast amount of past experience and failures along the way. Nobody attains a high level of intelligence in a chosen field without dedicating significant time to mastery. These traits take a long time to accumulate.
10/ However the most important ingredient for Big action, new projects, Big change is not skill, talent, knowledge or intelligence.
11/ It all comes down to an under appreciated trait that does not require any learning and unlike any of the above mentioned attributes does not take years to accumulate.
12/ This trait is called Consistency.

Knowledge, skill or intelligence gained is an act of accumulation or levelling up over a series of time, which can be viewed as a high staircase going up and up.

Consistency is binary, like a light switch, it’s either switched on or off.
13/ it’s far easier to switch a light switch on than climb a mountainous staircase.

And the staircase can be climbed much faster when the light is kept on than when it’s dark for periods
