I'm 48 this year. I knew I was gay from the time I was 12 or 13, and spent several years hating myself for it because that's what society taught me.
I've spent my entire life being insulted: called a pedophile, told I'm evil, told I'm subhuman or an animal, all because I'm gay.

Sure, the abuse has waned over the years as society grew more tolerant, but that's made the intolerant elements of society grate even more.
When bigoted fools invoke religion as a reason to keep spewing hatred & bile towards LGBTI people, I feel the weight of all those years.

And as I've got older, my tolerance for this poison-dipped-in-chocolate bigotry has continued to fall.

She •chose• to be religious, I and my brothers and sisters did not •choose• to be queer. Why the fuck would any of us, particularly of my age block or older, have chosen to endure that sort of hatred so regularly through our lives?
If you're not LGBTI, you don't have one fucking iota of authority to declare what she says as "not bigotry". It's not something you have a RIGHT to, because you've not fucking endured it throughout your life.

Christians – real Christians – interpret their religion in the modern context and focus on love and empathy being the most important aspects. Good Christians will leave Pentecostal churches and maintain their faith when it clashes with an evangelical demand for hate.

Not only does Margaret Court insult the LGBTI community with her foul bigotry, she sullies the reputation of the true, good Christians in society who use their faith to lift up everyone, not just themselves.
