It coincides with today’s welcome announcement on sex question in English and Welsh census, now about legal sex not gender identity. Academics like @ProfAliceS have fought hard to get this. But Alice should never have been no platformed by @NatCen for making this argument. 2/

It is now clear that academic institutions with close links to Stonewall are intellectually and ethically compromised, no matter how well-intentioned links may be. Academics must be free to insist sex matters; and academic institutions should not be trans activist institutions.
(Of course, that headline is misleading: it’s not a blow to trans rights to insist sex is important and mentioned. Arguably it’s blow to everyone’s rights for institutions to act like facts about sex don’t have important social consequences, and prioritise feelings instead.)
