It’s no longer a secret that uLesson is moving from Jos. I’m proud of what we were able to achieve here. We launched, reached a million downloads (in less than a year) and raised over $10m in funding while operating from an office in Rayfield. I hope this inspires y’all.
I don’t believe the move is a reflection of how bad it is to do business in Jos. If anything, the explosive growth at uLesson is a testament to how great it is to work here. https://twitter.com/simshagaya/status/1220694245578891264
Of course there are other factors that contributed to its growth, like the quality of the team which brings me to my next point.
-> There’s a serious lack of technical talent down here; from engineers to designers to product managers etc. https://twitter.com/simshagaya/status/1216267653624598528

uLesson did a lot of hiring; Jobs were created but lack of preparation and technical knowhow from us down here in Jos meant we couldn’t take advantage. There are a lot of lessons to learn here (pun intended).
Jos can be a home to large, profitable ventures but we need to stop playing little league baram and acquire the big boy skills. It’s as simple as that. Also, I wish I could say this in Ngas - tech is HIGHLY rewarding and has very LITTLE entry barriers.
uLesson is a testament to what we can achieve.
P.S these are my thoughts not an official statement.
