Looking more and more at Gundogan instead of Sterling. In last 10 GW, he actually has more shots in box, more big chances, and more chances created than Sterling. He's up a touch in NPxG. Sterling up 1.2 in xA even with fewer CC. He should be on pens and right sided set pieces 1/
with KDB out. His price point should open up possibilities although I have no idea what the Hell I am going to use it for. 2/2
I simply have no idea what to do. None.
Two more FA cup games to go and no more idea than I had yesterday. Think I probably need to plan to have 2 FTs in GW25 to plan for doubles. As such dumping Salah to afford Son and Kane seems clear path forward.
Pretty certain down to Gundo and Sterling. Sterling better overall numbers but Gundo close in xG. Shot numbers similar. xA Sterling has clear advantage BUT if Gundo can expect about 0.15 xA90 from set piece duty as MCI avg. 0.37 xG90 from set plays. With that it's damn near equal
Even a single pen would push Gundo over Sterling then. Think playing time likely about same as KDB being out removes a key threat to Gundo's playing time. Don't see Pep playing a 4-2-3-1 without KDB and think Gundo is nailed in 4-3-3 w/o KDB (I guess could go Foden and BSilva)
Basically the decision comes down to do you expect this season's trends to continue or do you see a reversion to previous years. If former, I think Gundo is selection. If latter clearly Sterling. Don't know what I think yet.
Thinking about this further, if City are to improve breaking down teams against a low block, it seems likely Gundogan will have a big part in that. He and BSilva going to be keys for unlocking the D and he will also have a part in set pieces. If they don't improve, Sterling 1/
probably not scoring enough to make his lack of selection an issue. Think I am landing on Gundo. Will think about it more tomorrow and maybe rewatch the Villa game for more research but that is the way I am leaning. 2/2
Rewatched Villa. See nothing to indicate Gundo will be farther back without KDB. He's a free 8 and actually I think B Silva will be more involved in setup allowing Gundo more runs into the area. I am taking him unless news comes out before deadline to change things.
Pulling trigger tonight. Might backfire tomorrow morning but seems unlikely any news will come out before then. Pep already has his PC so going forward with Gungo. Good luck everyone!
