You cannot be for Black liberation and not be for the abolition of prisons and cannot be for prison abolition while promoting the idea that "violence" is a reflection of individual morality and not a product of and function of society. We are violent and violence, collectively.
Capitalism necessitates violence. Anti-Blackness necessitates violence. The systems of power we live under can only produce violence and what that violence looks like has a long and varied history, but violence itself is not unique to or exclusive of any group or groups.
Morality analyses of violence allow us to build harm hierarchies that help us sleep easier while doing nothing to end the harms. Individual acts become unique, extreme, "bad" violence to avoid confronting the amount of violence we are surrounded by and engaged in everyday.
