Just realized Claudell Washington passed away six months ago. #RIP
Claudell Washington, a Rookie Baseball Sensation at 19, Dies at 65 https://www.nytimes.com/2020/06/10/sports/baseball/claudell-washington-dead.html
"[Washington] did not play for his high school baseball team because he had wanted to play outfield and the coach wanted him to pitch..." I knew he never played for Berkeley High. He played in Connie Mack, the same league Glenn Burke (LA Dodgers) played in, but didn't know why.
Burke was actually a phenomenal basketball player. Legend had it that he could hang in the air long enough to do a triple-pump. He was a much better b-ball player. But he was such a great athlete that he became the Dodgers starting center fielder. But the MLB ruined his career.
