New development on @metrolosangeles & @CaltransDist7 plans to demolish hundreds of homes to widen the 605 & 5 Freeways - mostly along the 5 in cities of #Downey & #SantaFeSprings. Metro has a new (not yet public) plan!(Thread)
Last summer, Metro announced the #605CIP project would take out 366+ parcels - including 253+homes in #Downey. In October, Metro board passed a motion saying give us a better plan that doesn't tear out so many homes.
Metro staff is presenting a new #605CIP plan at a @Gateway_COG freeways technical advisory committee - at 1:30pm on Tuesday 1/26. Agenda here (includes Metro slide show) http://www.gatewaycog.org/media/userfiles/subsite_9/files/committees/2021/91-605-405-tech-advisory/Agenda%2091-605-405%20TAC_Jan%2026%202021_v-1%20Reduced%20Size.pdf
Metro says it has a new #605CIP plan - which would reduce right-of-way impacts [aka home demolitions] along 5 Freeway (in #Downey & Santa Fe Springs) by "up to 34%"
Exact numbers hard to nail down (Metro gives demolition numbers wo maps, unclear what's along 5 or 605.) It looks like, for #Downey this means Metro still demolishing 167 homes. (Math: 253 homes announced, minus 34% 86 homes = 167) Metro says "up to 34%" so could be more demos
October @metrolosangeles board motion directs Metro staff to work with community stakeholder to develop better alternatives - but no public meetings on this - so it sure looks like more "publish and defend" top-down highway planning
Folks who oppose these still-major demolitions (including @CoalitionHappy) should dial in to the GCCOG TAC meeting on Tuesday 1/26 at 1:30. Download committee agenda and staff reports at COG webpage http://www.gatewaycog.org/who-we-are/committees/sr-91-605-405-technical-advisory-committee
