Thought it was worth looking at some of the players the Dolphins are working with in Mobile next week. There's some real talent that the team will get their hands on, away from the 'Big Two' from Alabama. Congratulations to @JimNagy_SB for putting together two great rosters.
Not too much to work with at QB: Book is a real gamer who can make plays with his feet, but lacks touch & ball placement. Ehlinger is very similar: works best out of structure but a weak arm & average accuracy. Franks is toolsy & had a good 2020. Has the most upside of the three.
Stevenson is a big back with good feet who’s hard to get down. Great hands & could switch to H-back. Carter is a ball of fun: tough, sweet feet, good angles as a runner, great hands & good route running ability. Also strong in pass pro. He's also patient & powerful.......
.......Khalil Herbert is a bit of a poor mans Kareem Hunt: a third down type who didn’t set the world alight at Kansas before transferring. Very good contact balance.
Fascinating WR group: Johnson is an FBS Hunter Renfrow, Felton's tough & has home run speed, was a 4 star WR in HS & played RB at UCLA. Could be a Tarik Cohen type. Nico Collins is big at 6’4 & athletic but lacks suddenness. Has all the tools but hasn’t put it together......
.....Skowronek is big & long & does the dirty work as a blocker and on ST’s. Wallace has some Tyler Lockett about his tape: great route runner, shifty, sudden, explosive. Eskridge I really like: he's a flying machine in the slot with a 4.33 40, really explosive & athletic.....
.....Darby only has 67 catches in four years but averages 20 yards a grab. And Fitzpatrick was a huge recruit but hasn’t trained on. Drops kill him. Overall it's an intriguing set of receivers. Something for everyone.
At TE, Long is big & works well in the short & intermediate areas, & can work the seam. Was erased by JOK late in the season. Yeboah has tools: real mismatch down the field & can block. Poljan is fairly new to the position but you can mould him. I haven’t done Mason.
Away from the big 4 on the OL: Eichenburg, Radunz, Brown & Humphrey: Hudson is an inexperienced Michigan transfer with some plus traits, Banks is a starter in the NFL: pure people mover who's a force in the run game. Jones is a power player at RT but should kick inside.....
....Iowa & Michigan tape in 2019 is strong. Meinerz is an athletic LG who'll rip your face off, & Hainsey is a RT who’ll kick to G. Smart, heady player who ties up ends. Haven’t done Curhan or James, Ealy is a RT who had trouble in 2020. Long but inconsistent/technique issues.
The DL group is strong: Cooper's had injury issues but has some juice off the edge when he plays under control. Graham's a bit of a tweener at 294 but had at least 12 TFL in each of the past two years. Hayes is stout v the run, can slide in as a 3T. Jackson is another tweener....
......who had a great year. Lacks twitch, but plays with an edge. Very productive with a lot of pressures in '20. Jones is good run defender with a solid array of pass rush moves. Not twitchy, but uses his hands well. Osa is a wall vs the run. Heavy hands, never on the floor.....
....& really fits what we do. Ogundeji is a rotational guy who wins with length. Huge fan of Onwuzurike: versatile, twitchy player who refuses to stay blocked. Wins with quickness & violent hands. Smith is really interesting: lean, long, twitchy, athletic FCS QB hunter......
......Toney has an electric first step - right up there with the best in college ball but is really inconsistent on tape. And Rashad Weaver is big & long & powerful & can collapse the pocket. Plays run really well. Lot for Miami to like in this group, notably Odighizuwa.
It’s a good LB group: Borland's limited athletically but instinctive. Core ST guy. Browning's a really good athlete with speed & range to play sideline to sideline. And Tony Fields is a stud: a tackle machine. If he was 6’3, 250 I’d have a hard job not putting him in R1......
....Fields is physical, athletic, explosive, can cover, & can rush the QB. Hilliard's less red flag flag & more Red Cross: so many injury problems in his career. Wallow led the Big 12 in tackles last two years running. ST/sub package guy. I like Barnes as a sub-package rusher....
....I love Rashed & Surratt: Rashed's a long, lean, athletic pass rusher who wins with his first step, but can cover & set the edge. Watch him take apart Devin Asiasi last year. And Surratt has such a high ceiling. He flies around. 3 down player & when he hits you, you stay hit!
I've not done Brown, Flores will love Bynum - 4 year starter, loves the game, but lacks athletic ability & should kick to S. Graham's a three year starter/sub package guy who lacks suddenness. St Juste is a Michigan transfer with great size/length/hips but no experience.....
.....Taylor I love. So underrated: long, athletic with smooth movement skills. Thomas is also really good: press CB, loose hips, technique, instincts. Very physical. Williams is Greedy Williams’s brother. Deablo is a box safety/downhill guy. Not someone you want in space.....
...Hall I've not done but is a S turned CB. Hamlin's a high floor player, thumper from deep. Will need to see if he can cover TE's. Norwood missed half the season with a knee injury but still had five picks, & Uphoff has some Jeremy Chinn vibes: big, long, rangy, high ceiling.
Miami like those safeties who've been CB's or can really cover in match-ups: James Wiggins, Javon Holland, Josh Bledsoe, Jaqan Brisker, Tariq Thompson. Anyway, apologies for flooding your timelines. Some terrific players for Flores & staff to work with this week @3YardsPerCarry
