Democrats must understand everything Republicans do is a move to lessen the odds Democrats will win the next election. Start governing to help the country, and in turn your own odds. Worry less about what your opponent thinks.

Make no mistake—there are some Senate and House Republicans who might join you! But you have to lead to be followed. Soliciting your opponents’ perspective/opinion on everything before advocating any position is not leading.

Take, for example, this discussion with McConnell about the “power sharing” in the Senate where he is asking for absurd concessions. Why are you even discussing it? It’s true there are still limits to what Democrats can do, especially as long as the filibuster exists.

But with Democrats united on key issues it will be hard for Republicans to filibuster Covid relief, infrastructure bills, minimum wage legislation—popular legislative items.

It’s more likely 2-5 Republicans jump ship on some of these issues and vote *with* Democrats, because they are popular with voters.

Take a breath and lead from the front—not the conference table with Mitch.
