In early 1800s a kid left on a ship from a port not that far from my place in London, owned by the Company, headed to Guangzhou (not sure what became of him)

In 1792, a Breton sailor Pierre Francois Peron got stranded in Ile Amsterdam, in South Indian Ocean, for 3 years.
Then there’s the story of Eudoxus, the Hellenic voyager from 2nd century BC.

Sailed from Red Sea to India and back. Then sailed again, but blown off course to Somalia where he discovered the symbol of Gades (Cadiz), sailed around Africa. Came to Canary Islands.
He then tried to seek a way east to India, sailing from Cape of Good Hope. But never heard from again.

Forget any old adventurer, just pick up books pre WW2, read about people in the West. There was such an embrace of uncertainty that is conspicuous today.
We are easily scared of mental images of Putin today, with TV media nonstop blaring all kinds of things.

People are turning inward, huddling in own tribes etc. Scared and anxious about the future. Entering (prob already entered) into a new cycle
