Remember all the debate on Gibson only having 33 rushes in 2019? Gainwell was the main reason for that, dominating the touches in the Memphis backfield
What I like from the tape:

BURST
I love Gainwell’s burst at the LOS. He can plant, cut up field & turn on the jets. Defenders think they have an angle in both clips at the LOS but he shows his burst and ruins the defs angle. Note on the 2nd clip a show of his contact balance to take the hit & stay upright

ELUSIVENESS
Gainwell can be very elusive at the LOS & in the open field. He makes defenders miss constantly when faced 1-1. In the 1st clip, he breaks down the defender at the point of contact. 2nd clip he slips past a defender at the LOS and creates extra yards w/the spin move

VISION
These clips shows off his vision and burst. In the 1st clip he allows his downfield blockers get into place for a 1st down and big gain. 2nd clip he shows the same thing allowing his blockers get in place. Also shows off his elusiveness making defenders miss in open field

POWER
I think this is a very underrated aspect of his game. He’s no Najee, but he plays a lot bigger than his size. Clip 1 & 3 he shows solid contact balance. I love in clip 2 how many tacklers he sheds and gains plus yardage on a play that should have gone nowhere.

PASS CATCHING
I think this is Gainwell’s best attribute. He runs routes like a WR at the RB position. In the 1st clip, he is lined up in the slot and makes an over the shoulder catch that would be difficult for even a WR. 2nd clip, I mean wow. 1-1 coverage and then takes off

Now on to the parts of Gainwell’s game I have concerns about:
- Pass pro. While he excels at pass catching, he is inconsistent when pass blocking and blocking for others on plays not designed for him

- Sometimes tries too hard to get something out of nothing and ends up losing yards.. which he can get away with in college more than he will be able to in the NFL
- Great burst and quickness, but lacking in straight line speed for a RB of his size

Gainwell has really good potential to be a stud in the NFL (not unlike Gibson). I do expect him to be drafted and put into a complimentary role though. I think he needs to be put in the right system to utilize his skill set. There’s a reason he was the lead back for Memphis in 19
