Ahead of our fixture against Newcastle on Tuesday, I had a go out doing an opposition analysis type presentation that I've seen from a few accounts on here with my own twist. #LUFC
They are currently on a terrible run of form, losing 4 and drawing 1 of their last 5 league games. They currently sit 16th in the league with 10 defeats already this season.
Having a look at their last 3 line-ups, they've played a mix of players and formations.
Darlow is the only player to start all league games, Wilson a regular, along with Lewis, Hayden, Hendrick and Joelinton. Mainly played a 4-4-2 or a 5-4-1 with the best results coming with a 4-4-2, so a switch to a 3-3-1-3 for Leeds could be on the cards.
Out of possession in these two formations, they look to sit in a mid to low block and don't look to press. They're the lowest in the league for PPDA (passes per defensive action).
Having had a look at where they conceded chances from corners, the front post and back post are areas to exploit. They have a mix of zonal and man marking.
Going forward their full backs are relatively good however defensively can be got at. Sucking them in and playing around them is a good way of creating space.
Changing the angle on the cross and having their centre backs run backwards with midfield runners is also an effective way to create chances against Newcastle.
When they do commit bodies forward via set pieces or in open play, they're extremely slow to get back into their defensive shape.
Despite their lack of goals, one man who is very capable is Callum Wilson. Got the pace to get in behind Leeds high line and can finish.
Another player who has just returned and a danger is Saint-Maximin. With Leeds man marking system, a dribble and a good one at that can unbalance us.
Key messages to the players if this was to be shown to them.
Despite this looking simple, it took a long time to put together. Would love some feedback on what I could add/change in the future.
