My friend @Wolfe321 was fired by the @nytimes, stalked in her neighborhood & is receiving actual threats and hate mail for tweeting THIS.
I am furious, disgusted & incredibly sad. You mess with Lauren, and you’ve messed with an army of people she has inspired, loved, & blessed.

This past year, I have seen people retain their jobs/“fail upward” who:
• misappropriated funds to carry out their extramarital affairs
• verbally assaulted Black men
• discriminated against me based on my gender, faith, etc.
• retaliated against those raising concerns

I know still of others who have retained six figure jobs even after:
• coercing interns into sexual acts
• assaulting employees
• conducting surveillance of female employees
Etc.
But a woman is merely relieved that the election drama is over and she gets canned by the NYT.

To clarify, the offenses I listed were not things that necessarily transpired in the last year - there are older things that have come to light. Assume nothing. :)
(And other pieces I and everyone knew as they were happening, and those who could act failed to. Good times.)
Point being: those who maintain an ethical core continue to lose their livelihoods at the hands of those who fail to possess one.

For those who haven’t been reading her words directly or want confirmation of her termination: https://twitter.com/wolfe321/status/1353106479549739009
So apparently many of you were today years old when you learned that women get reprimanded and fired over absolutely ridiculous things, whereas men experience that less often
This. @Wolfe321 is the MOST incredible person and the best of the best among journalists. @nytimes, do the right thing. https://twitter.com/jshahryar/status/1353141800228151299
Many of you have asked how to help @Wolfe321: https://twitter.com/wolfe321/status/1353276354591125504
Her Venmo is lauren-wolfe-10. I’m sure every bit helps.
Stay out of my DMs, folks. Don’t be like @juckfoebiden.
Someone pointed out that “army” may not be the best word. Fair enough. Team, squad, crew, band of allies. People who have her back always.
“This must not be the REAL reason!”
It is clear many of you have never experienced retaliation at the hands of an employer. It’s traumatic, especially in 2020-2021. There you are, a person who has no valid reason to have lost your job, unable to make ends meet during a pandemic.

“She must have had an affair!”
Your misogyny is showing. How dare you?
(This allegation was an actual tweet I just saw from someone who didn’t have the eggs to @ me.)

This is who @Wolfe321 is. Not vengeful. Supporting her former colleagues. Gracious always. https://twitter.com/wolfe321/status/1353248028484890624
A lot of partisan screaming in my mentions. Let’s be clear: this, to me, is not actually such a partisan issue.
The incidents I referenced (excerpted below) happened in both liberal and conservative environments. Liberals who post Black Lives Matter carry out racist firings too.

I don’t believe in “canceling” anyone but those who actually, truly, deserve it: apologists for or supporters of genocide; the Klan, racists, abusers and the like. I am unapologetic about that. “Conservatives get fired too” literally is not an effective retort.
I’ve never called for anyone to be fired for “being a conservative.” For being a white supremacist? A wife beater? A Nazi? Sure. If you think those things mean or are “conservative,” that’s a you problem.
While I don’t have many conservative friends, I do have some. While we disagree on plenty politically, none of them cross my red lines regarding the rights of marginalized people.
If one of you had tweeted “a sad day for me to see this man inaugurated,” I would not support you being fired. If you stormed the Capitol, that’s another story.
Nice try, though. I’m not playing this game.

The other tweet folks are referencing isn’t a fireable offense either. The paper itself issues corrections and retractions all the time - that would easily work here, if they wanted a statement to be made.
An interesting thread, including an exchange with someone who responded to it: https://twitter.com/wesleylowery/status/1353411326626983936
