The disconnect between African countries who had different colonizers is illustrated best by the lack of flights between us. Mozambique and Tanzania are Neighbouring countries but there are no direct flights between them.
It’s easier for someone to fly to Portugal from Maputo than for them to fly to Dar es Salaam

To fly from Dakar to Abuja you have to first fly to Belgium or France then fly back

South Africa, Kenya and Ethiopia are a bit luckier in this regard because we have airport hubs with more flights. But elsewhere on the continent it’s something very different.
And you can’t even blame the airlines. African countries interact very little with countries that had a different colonizer to our own and I think the colonial language we use is a big part of that. It keeps our ties with the former masters tighter than our ties with each other.
This is yet another reason why introducing Kiswahili as a lingua Franca at least in SADC makes sense to me.
Imagine maintaining a disconnect between countries in this region just because some are French or Portuguese or English speaking when our local languages are so so similar to one another. It doesn’t make sense.
