Hi, it’s your cool Autisticat Aunt Abby! Today I’m teaching sex education, so read with discretion.

Autism, ADHD, and hypersexuality often go together. Impulsive, compulsive, & risky sexual behavior is common in people who are sensory seeking & have trouble with self-regulation.
People with ADHD are predisposed to make impulsive or risky decisions, and sex is no exception. This can lead to problems.

Of course sex itself is often a very good thing, and I’ll always encourage healthy sex.

But it’s also important to be mindful of your impulses.
When someone is very sensory seeking in a sexual way, it’s easy to prioritize that over making careful decisions about a situation or a partner.

Sexual acts occuring in risky locations, or without contraceptives, might be some ways that tendency manifests.
Risky situations might involve drugs or alcohol (for example), or enduring abuse in order to satisfy sensory needs.

I’ve been there, & I know it’s hard. Especially if you’re neurodivergent and so used to feeling unwanted that you latch onto anyone who shows you attention.
A “people-pleaser” mentality often accompanies this sort of situation for ND people.

The urge to satisfy a partner by any means, even doing things you’re not comfortable with, probably also contributes to risky sex.

This is usually because of a fear of rejection.
If you’re in this position, I recommend talking to your friends. They can help you think things through, and meet your emotional needs.

As for sensory needs, there are ways you can meet those on your own. But other physical activity will likely help, like running or sports.
Hopefully this will help you pause to ask if you’re actually attracted to a person, or if you’re acting on impulse to satisfy your sensory needs.

And remember, ND people can absolutely have healthy relationships. I’m in one right now!

I love you all, stay safe :)
XOXO, Abby
