Teach them as PLAYS. As in, watch performances of the material.
Everyone knows "Romeo and Juliet." Stop wasting time on it. There are so many better plays.
Make it fun. Talk about the language, and what it means. Talk about the insults, the context. Point out the dick jokes.

Stop making Shakespeare high brow.
There are plenty of other white men you can (and should) delete from your curriculum before Shakespeare. Namely, because there are so many ways Shakespeare can be taught.

I would argue that we need Hemingway and Conrad way less than Shakespeare.
